Biography Soewarto Hardhienata

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Soewarto Hardhienata finished his bachelor degree in applied Mathematics at University of Gajah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 1982. He continued his study at University of Erlangen Nuernberg Germany and received doctorate degree (Doctorengineur) in 1993 from Institut fuer Mathematische Maschinen und Datenverarbeitung (IMMD) - Technische Fakultaetat with specialization: communications system, simulation and optimization. He began his career at LAPAN in 1982 as a researcher at the space telecommunication technology division.

In 1984, he became visiting researcher at the Institute for telecommunication and information technique DLR Germany. In 1993, he returned from Germany and continued working at LAPAN as a researcher of LAPAN’s space communications and transmission technology division. From 1996 - 2000, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Soewarto Hardhienata was pointed as the head of space communications technology division and in 1998 as leader of LAPAN’s micro/small satellite team. Besides that, since 1996 he was also pointed as National Contact Point – UNESCAP for Working Group on Space Science and Technology Applications. From 2000 - 2002, he was pointed as the leader of National Satellite Development Working Group of the Indonesian Satellite Association (ASSI) and from April 2001 – February 2007 as Director of Aerospace Electronics Technology Center – National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN). Since March 2007 he was pointed as Deputy Chairman for Aerospace Technology – LAPAN.
